- November 19, 2012 - Almost twenty-five years after its introduction and almost immediate establishment as a mainstay application for defense, aerospace, government, commercial and industrial organizations, SEER® for Software (SEER-SEM™)—the flagship software project estimation solution from Galorath Incorporated, a California-based software firm—has been upgraded to include an array of new capabilities. SEER customers include Boeing; Ford Motor Company; Lockheed Martin; Northrop Grumman; and the U.S. Department of Defense.
SEER-SEM allows its users to prepare and execute successful projects by enabling project managers, cost analysts and engineers to make timely, accurate and insightful decisions to identify, evaluate and manage the complex array of cost, labor, schedule, reliability and risk issues associated with an organization's entire portfolio of projects.
SEER-SEM now includes new features and enhancements to more easily estimate software projects for SAP, Cloud, Embedded, Industrial, Mainframe, and Mobile Device platforms. For SAP project estimation, a new size metric for RICEF Objects has been added, providing an appropriate method to characterize the effort required to address the "gaps" in an SAP implementation by defining the technical objects that need to be designed and built.
Numerous other enhancements have been added for robust software project estimation including enhancements to SEER’s defect estimation model, which is used to estimate corrective maintenance, as well as Analogy Based Sizing and the detailed risk parameters to support more detailed risk studies. New features in Galorath’s Project Monitoring and Control capabilities provide greater visibility to in-process oversight during project execution.
For users looking to adjust language factors, the new SEER-SEM 8.1 has been updated based on our most recent study and calibration of functional size data to estimated effort including new languages such as COOL:gen, MATLAB, Objective C, OutSystems, Python, RPL, Ruby, and Web Development as well as updates to 3GL, 4GL, COBOL, C, C++, C#, and Java.
"These upgrades are based on the feedback we get from customers as well as our analysis of industry and industry trends," said Dan Galorath, president and CEO of Galorath Incorporated. "Our philosophy has always been that there are no greater experts in the usage and application of SEER project management solutions than SEER customers themselves."
The SEER Enterprise Database has also undergone improvements to allow even more robust version control of SEER project files. “Many of our large customers are seeking a robust and well defined estimation process. The SEER Enterprise Database offers a framework to organize, collate and control estimates created with the SEER estimation models and supports the estimation workflow process”, says Karen McRitchie, Vice President of Product Development for Galorath Incorporated.
