Is SEERai a separate product from SEER for Software?

SEERai is a distinct advancement within the Galorath product suite, designed to harness the power of generative AI for facilitating the initial steps in project and cost estimation. SEERai operates independently, and is not currently a fully integrated component within the SEER for Software (SEER-SEM) application or the broader SEER product suite. Today, SEERai serves as a complementary tool that enhances the capabilities of all SEER products by allowing users to generate initial estimates and actionable scripts through plain language inputs.

The functionality of SEERai extends across the entire SEER suite, which includes SEER for Software (SEER-SEM), SEER for Hardware (SEER-H), SEER for Manufacturing (SEER-MFG)—and soon SEER-Space, SEER-IT, and other specialized tools. It leverages the proven data models and methodologies that are the foundation of these SEER solutions, supplemented by the expertise of Galorath’s data scientists and estimation professionals. This synergy allows SEERai to provide valuable insights that are consistent with the high standards of accuracy and reliability expected from all SEER products.

Although SEERai stands as a separate tool, its outputs are designed for easy integration with other SEER applications, ensuring that users can benefit from AI-driven preliminary insights while continuing to engage with the detailed, comprehensive analysis capabilities of the SEER suite.

Will SEERai come as part of the SEER products we’ve already purchased, or is there an additional cost?

SEERai is available to all Galorath customers and SEER users. Today, there is no charge for access. However, please note that it is not currently accessible from within the SEER platform. The availability of SEERai’s full integration into SEER, while on the development roadmap, is not known at this time.

Where did the training data come from?

SEERai, as part of the Galorath product suite, is trained using a robust and diverse set of data sources, methodologies, and expertise that are integral to the SEER solutions. Here’s a detailed breakdown of how SEERai is trained.

Expert Input and Validation: The training of SEERai involves input from Galorath’s team of data scientists, subject matter experts, and experienced estimators. These experts provide insights into the nuances of project management and cost estimation, ensuring that SEERai’s outputs are both accurate and applicable to real-world scenarios.

Methodologies and Models: SEERai is trained using the established methodologies that underpin the SEER software suite. This includes cost models (i.e. mass properties, work breakdown, etc.), risk analysis techniques, and estimation methodologies that have been developed and refined over decades. The materials used did not include any private or confidential data or information. Continual Learning and Updates: The AI model behind SEERai is not static; it continuously learns from new data and user feedback. As it encounters new scenarios and gathers more data, its predictive capabilities and accuracy improve.

Why not just input the data right into the SEER models?

Data can indeed be inputted directly into the SEER models, which remains the primary method for digital engineers using the SEER platform. However, SEERai was developed to cater to users who prefer a more intuitive and user-friendly approach to initiating project and cost estimations.

SEERai allows users to begin the estimation process using plain language, making it more accessible and reducing the initial complexity often associated with detailed cost modeling. This is particularly beneficial for new users or stakeholders who need to quickly generate estimates without delving into the more technical aspects of the data input process.

Additionally, SEERai is designed to provide actionable data and scripts that can be seamlessly integrated with the SEER suite, enhancing the overall workflow. By automating the initial steps and allowing for easy data integration, SEERai not only simplifies the estimation process but also ensures that the estimates are compatible and can be further refined using the comprehensive tools available in SEER for Software, SEER for Hardware, and other SEER products.

In essence, while direct data input into SEER models is always an option, SEERai provides an alternative pathway that broadens accessibility, enhances user experience, and facilitates a smoother transition from initial estimates to detailed analysis across the SEER suite.

Can SEERai take a set of functional requirements and size them using either a size metric IFPUG or Cosmic sizing to determine a size range?

In the near-future, SEERai will be able to take a set of functional requirements and size them using popular size methods, such as IFPUG or COSMIC, to determine a size range.

Can SEERai answer questions to plan/estimate resources required to deliver a product/project using agile approaches?

Yes! SEERai can assist in planning and estimating the resources required to deliver a product or project using agile methodologies. It supports agile estimation by providing tools and models that help in:

  • Estimating Effort and Duration: SEERai can assist in estimating the effort in person-months or person-hours and the duration in weeks or months required to complete an agile project. This includes considering the number of sprints, sprint length, and team velocity.
  • Sizing User Stories: SEERai can help size user stories or epics, which is crucial for backlog grooming and sprint planning in agile projects.
  • Resource Allocation: It can provide insights into the optimal allocation of resources like developers, testers, and other key personnel based on the project's scale and complexity.
  • Cost Estimation: SEERai includes cost estimation capabilities tailored to agile projects, considering factors like team size, overhead, and technology stack.
  • Risk Management: Agile projects can benefit from SEERai’s ability to identify and manage risks, including scope changes, resource availability, and technological challenges.

    Can SEERai use the software to generate estimates or is it a guide for a human operator?

However, SEERai functions as an aid rather than a replacement for human expertise. It enhances decision-making by offering precise, data-driven insights that can be reviewed and adjusted by engineers or cost analysts. The goal of SEERai is to support and improve the accuracy of human estimations, ensuring that project planners and managers are equipped with the best possible information to make informed decisions. Thus, while SEERai can generate estimates independently, it is most effective when used as a collaborative tool that complements human judgment and expertise.

    SEERai is a generative AI developed specifically for Galorath customers to start the process of initially defining project and cost estimations in plain language, with actionable data and scripts that can be utilized with the SEER suite. It has been trained (and will continue being trained) with the data and methodologies of the SEER solution suite (SEER-SEM, SEER-MFG, SEER-H) as well as the expertise of Galorath’s data scientists, subject matter experts, and expert estimation and digital engineering professionals. Today, it is not directly integrated into any of the products within the SEER application suite. However, later in 2024, SEERai will also be trained on SEER-SPACE and SEER-IT, paving the way for plain language planning for users of those Galorath products, as well. The availability of SEERai’s full integration into SEER, while on the development roadmap, is not known at this time.
